Car crash on the I-5 in Federal Way creates six-mile traffic jam

Car accidents occur everyday around here, including in our neighbourhoods, back roads and, of course, on our highways. Indeed, one recent car crash on Interstate 5 in Federal Way created a six-mile traffic jam.

The car crash

I-5 has seen its share of traffic issues, and on a recent Monday morning before 6:00 a.m., it saw yet another. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, a car accident occurred in Federal Way (near South 272nd Street) that block two lanes (HOV lane and left) of I-5. This caused a six-mile backup on the interstate into the King-Pierce county line, but it was cleared by 7:20 a.m. WSDOT has not released the details of the accident yet. And, the severity of the collision was also not released.

What to do when passing a car crash

For Seattle, Washington, residents that pass a car crash, call 9-1-1 immediately. Though, if there are already first responders on the scene or if people are already on their cell phones, one can simply pass along. Be careful, slow down and pull into the lane not adjacent to the accident. This will ensure one passes safely and does not cause another accident. If one is going the oppose way, please do not slow down to see “what’s going on.” According to WSDOT, these “rubber neckers” caused additional delays on I-5.

What about if one is involved in the car crash?

For Seattle, Washington, residents actually involved in the car accident, also call 9-1-1. Ensure that both police and ambulance are dispatched. It is essential that everyone be medically examined because, even slow-speed accidents, can have massive medical consequences. In addition, a police report can be essential to help establish fault, though, one may have to hire an attorney to have an additional private investigation.
