The National Safety Council, or NSC, is predicting that, across the country, just over 465 people will die in automobile accidents over the Labor Day holiday. If this estimate holds, it will be an increase of over 20% from Labor Day 2020.

The NSC is also predicting an increase in the number of injury accidents over the long weekend. Specifically, NSC estimates that about 53,000 people will suffer an injury serious enough to require some level of medical attention.

Medically consulted injuries  can ultimately prove to be minor, but they also include severe injuries like broken bones, traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.

Finally, the NSC pointed out that drunk and drugged driving are more common over Labor Day, a day when many people enjoy themselves with family or at parties.

Significantly, over Labor Day, close to 40% of all fatal accidents involve at least one impaired driver. On average, the rate falls just under 30%.

Seattle-area motorists have an obligation to drink and drive responsibly

Holidays are supposed to be fun, but they are no excuse for irresponsible driving.

Motorists in the Seattle area who plan to drink will need to be sure that they are well under the legal limit before getting behind a wheel. Otherwise, they will need to come up with an alternate mode of transportation.

By now, most Washingtonians probably have heard that it is wise to designate a driver if they have any plans to drink at all while celebrating the last of the summer holidays.

When drivers fail in their most basic obligations, including the obligation to drive sober, innocent people are prone to getting seriously injured or killed in an automobile accident.

Victims of these type of accidents have every right to expect justice, and they may be able to pursue full compensation for their losses from those responsible for them.
