Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by Auburn police officer

AUBURN, WA – Investigators with the Kent Police Department are looking into the cause of a collision in which an Auburn police detective struck and critically injured a pedestrian Saturday.

According to the Seattle Times, the accident was reported at about 4 p.m. within the 2400 block of Auburn Way South.

Officials say the detective was traveling in an unmarked vehicle when the pedestrian stepped out in front of it, away from the marked crosswalk. The officer stopped to report the incident and render aid to the critically injured victim.

The detective is currently on administrative leave while the collision is investigated.
